The rate ledger

Every rate we hold, in one table. Each line is the median of reader-submitted invoices and payout screens for that kind of work, with the sample size next to it so you can judge how much to trust it. Small samples are marked and should be read as a hint, not a benchmark.

Median pay is the middle figure across submissions, not an average, so a handful of unusually high or low invoices cannot drag it. Hours per week is self-reported. Start cost covers equipment, software and licensing paid before the first payment came in. Samples under 25 are thin — treat those rows as directional.

How to read this table

A high hourly rate is not the same as a good hustle. Bookkeeping pays less per hour than technical writing, but it books solid recurring hours and clients rarely leave. UGC video pays the best headline number on this page and has the shortest average career of anything we track.

Three things worth checking on any line before you commit a Saturday to it:

  • Pay against hours. A $250 video is a great rate until you find out it takes eleven hours including reshoots. We list hours per week, not per job, so check the linked report for job-level timings.
  • Start cost against your patience. Anything above roughly $200 needs a plan for how you recover it. Most people who quit a hustle quit before they earn back the setup.
  • Sample size. Twenty-three technical writers is enough to spot a range. It is not enough to promise you a rate.

If a line here is missing something you know, the ledger only improves when people add to it. Send us your numbers — it takes about a minute and everything is published anonymously.

What is not in here

We do not list anything where the income depends on recruiting other people, anything requiring an upfront fee to participate, or anything we could not verify with at least ten independent payment records. Some popular categories are missing for that last reason rather than the first two, and we would rather show a gap than a guess. Our full method is on the how we test page.

The Payout · every Tuesday

Three gigs worth doing. One worth skipping.

Plus the rates behind both, pulled from what readers actually got paid last week. Free, and it stays that way.

No sponsored gigs in the main list. When a link pays us, it says so on the line above it.
